 MEDICAL CODING 

              The process of converting medical diagnosis, treatments, services, and equipment into universal medical alphanumeric codes is known as medical coding. Medical coders are health information specialists who use a classification system to examine clinical statements and give standardized codes. The codes are extracted from medical record paperwork, including lab and radiologic results, transcriptions of doctor's notes, etc. Medical coding specialists assist in making sure the codes are applied appropriately throughout the medical billing process. This involves examining the work, assigning the proper codes, and extracting information from the documentation.

In order to improve healthcare by obtaining data from the codes and to be compensated for their services, medical coders are necessary. In healthcare settings, a variety of medical codes are utilized, including Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) and the International Classification of Diseases (ICD). A solid understanding of human anatomy and physiology, as well as completion of academic education and/or on-the-job training in medical coding, are prerequisites for becoming a medical coder.
